Defcon
Defcon is an annual hacker convention that takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is the largest such conference and draws in a diverse crowd of hackers and law enforcement.1 The event includes on-site demonstrations of new software and hacks, speakers, a dance, contests and classes.1

Dmitry Sklyarov
In 2001, Dmitry Sklyarov, a Russian programmer, was arrested at Defcon for giving away software that could decrypt Adobe's e-book format.5
The Madigan Scandal
In August 2007, Michelle Madigan, a reporter for Dateline NBC, was heckled and chased from the conference for recording the event but failing to identify she was with the press.6
