Daniel Faulkner
Philadelphia police officer,
Daniel Faulkner was killed on December 9, 1981.
Mumia Abu-Jamal was arrested and later convicted for
Daniel's death in 1982.
The murder occurred after officer Daniel pulled over William Cook, Mumia's brother. While he attempted to arrest William, Mumia reportedly shot him in the back. He did return the fire before he fell to the ground. Mumia was wounded in the chest. He then stood over Daniel and unloaded his weapon's remaining ammunition into him, one of which struck him in the face.
Mumia was sentenced to death but the 3rd Court of Appeals granted him a new sentencing hearing on March 27, 2008.
