Cristine Santanna
Beach volleyball player Cristine Santanna was born in Brazil, but represents Georgia in international play. She competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.1 Santanna finished 17th at the 2008 Olympics, winning a single match.2

Volleyball Career
Santanna was born and raised in Brazil. She and her partner, Andrezza Chagas, were contacted by Mikhail Saakashvili, president of Georgia, in 2006. The team agreed to accept Georgian citizenship and represent the country in international play.1 Santanna and Chagas joined the Federation Internationale de Volleyball for two tournaments in 2006, placing 41st in each. In 2007, they competed in 17 tournaments, earning a best finish of ninth place at a Montreal event. Santanna and Chagas finished in ninth place twice in 2008, including at the Women's Confederation Europeenne de Volleyball Championships. Their best finish prior to the Summer Olympics came at a tournament in Klagenfurt, Austria, where they came in fourth and won $4,600.5
