Basics
- Crisis Core is much more action-oriented than any of its Final Fantasy counterparts. You will have a very limited amount of time to find and use items and spells, so make sure you act quickly.
- Resist the urge to keep attacking. Spamming the Attack command will get you killed in short order.
- Dodge whenever you can. Dodging completely eliminates any damage you might have taken, even from spells. The only attacks that cannot be dodged are special attacks and you’ll know when one of those hits you.
- Block if you must. Blocking will greatly reduce the damage you take from attacks, and can be handy in a tight spot.
- Note: You must be facing the enemy to block their attacks.
- Get behind the enemy whenever possible. All hits on the enemy’s back are critical hits which do extra damage and stun the enemy for a short time.
- You can’t skip the cutscenes, so don’t bother trying.
- Get used to the cutscenes: there are a lot of them.
- Check your mail every time you hear a beep.
- Tip: Keep an eye out for silver chests. There are a bunch of them scattered about. You may need to rotate the camera (shoulder buttons) to see them.
- The description of each Boss Fight includes a Recommended Level. This is the level that most players face the boss at and walk away successfully. It is by no means the level you must be to face the boss. However, if you are significantly below the recommended level, you might consider doing some missions first. These can be done at any Save Sphere in the game.
DMW Reel
- This is the slot machine-like apparatus in the upper left corner of the screen. It works randomly and at certain intervals, will spin and grant you specific abilities such as attack boosts and magic boosts.
- When 777 comes up on the reel, Zack gains a level (this will always happen when you gain enough XP to level. This is the only circumstance under which the player can impact the outcome of the DMW reel.)
- Certain character and number combinations will allow Zack to perform overdrive attacks.
- As you meet them, new characters will be added to the DMW reel.
- There are no buttons to press or combinations to shoot for; the DMW reel operates almost completely independently of the player. Getting a good combination on it is simply a matter of luck.
Limit Breaks
- These special attacks are activated by the DMW whenever it produces three pictures of the same character. They range in power levels depending on which character is rolled, but are always devastating to the enemy. Below is a list of all the different Limit Breaks and when you get them.
- Chain Slash - Silhouettes, unlocked at the start of the game.
- Octaslash - Sephiroth, unlocked at the start of the game.
- Rush Assault - Angeal, unlocked at the start of the game.
- Air Strike - Tseng, unlocked at the start of chapter 3.
- Lucky Stars - Cissnei, unlocked at the start of chapter 4.
- Healing Wave - Aeris, unlocked at the start of chapter 5.
- Meteor Shots - Cloud, unlocked at the start of chapter 6.
- Apocalypse - Genesis, unlocked at the start of chapter 6.
- Rebirth Flame - Phoenix, unlocked in Nibelheim, Chapter 9.
- Hellfire - Ifrit, unlocked by clearing mission 8-1-1.
- Exa Flare - Bahamut Fury, unlocked by clearing mission 7-5-3.
- Mega Flare - Bahamut, unlocked by clearing mission 8-1-4.
- Zantetsuken - Odin, unlocked by clearing mission 8-1-6.
- Chocobo Stomp - Chocobo, found in treasure chest in mission 8-4-1.
- Courage Boost! - Cait Sith, found in treasure chest in mission 8-4-3.
- Moggle Power - Moogle, found in treasure chest in mission 8-4-4.
- 1,000 Needles - Cactuar, unlocked by clearing mission 10-1-3.
- Murderous Thrust - Tonberry, unlocked by clearing mission 10-2-3.
- Item Mugger - Magic Pot, encountered in mission 10-2-3. Use Fira, Jump, Gravity and Assault Twister on it when it asks for each attack and you will get the DMW.
Materia Synthesis
- Materia are special items Zack can equip that allow him to perform physical actions like attacks, cast spells, utilize other abilities or gain passive abilities.
- Materia Synthesis becomes available to you in Chapter 4. This process allows you to combine Materia with other Materia to produce a new Materia. Before you accept the result, you get a chance to roughly preview what you'll be getting. If this is not to your satisfaction, press No to cancel.
- Note: Each Materia has a level from 1 to 5. Different levels of Materia will help produce different results. For example, combining a Level 1 Cure with a Level 3 Blizzard will produce a different result than a Level 5 Cure with a Level 4 Blizzard.
- Tip: In general, it is better to wait until a Materia is at least level 3 before synthesizing it with another Materia. The results will be much more helpful.
- Items can also be included in Materia Synthesis at higher levels. Doing so will again produce a variety of different results.
- Note: Materia Synthesis is not essential to the game. You can play the entire game through on the Materia you find. If you're hardcore enough, you can even beat the game with the Materia you start with. Some Materia such as Poison or HP Boost can be very helpful, but are by no means required to beat the game.
Chapter 1: Intro
- Enjoy the cinematic.
- Take on the Wutai soldiers. They’re weak, so get used to the controls and the battle system if you aren’t already.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Kill the Behemoth. Like the Wutai soldiers, it’s easy.
- Tip: Get behind the Behemoth and stay away from the tail. It can dodged, but doesn’t hit all that hard. Use Cure or a Potion from your inventory if you get low on HP.
- Watch the cutscene with Sephiroth.
Chapter Two: Shinra Office
- Save.
- Watch the cutscene with Zack and the SOLDIER.
- Open the Option menu (triangle) and get the layout. Feel free to poke around (if you’ve played any other Final Fantasy game this should look familiar) and check your mails when you’re done.
- Read the Tutorial mail.
- Talk to the SOLDIER at the door when you’re finished reading your mail. He will move aside and let you into the next room.
- Head into the next room and examine the computer terminal. This explains Missions.
- Go to the Save Point that appeared and Save.
- Go into the menu screen and select Missions. There should be a mission path open to you now. Follow it to the right to find the mission and accept it.
Shinra Training Mission
- Kill the eight soldiers to end the mission. They do little other than take hits and die. Easy as pie.
- Go to the equipment lockers and loot a Bronze Bangle from box #6.
- Save again and return to the other room.
- Speak to Angeal.
- Watch the cutscene.
Wutai
- Kill the three soldiers. Be careful, the enemies you fight will be tougher from here on out.
- Follow the path down (it only goes one way) and defeat any random opponents you happen by.
- Watch the cutscene when you get to the end of the path.
- Continue down the path.
- Stop and read the mail when you hear a beep.
- Save and continue.
- Watch the cutscene and get ready for a big fight.
Wutai Fortress: Entrance
- Defeat the enemies on the ground, then use your spells to get the enemies on the walls.
- Tip: Stay away from the wall to dodge the arrow attacks.
- Head through the gate and defeat a few more guards.
Wutai Fortress: Interior
- Take your phone call. Your objective is to eliminate as many enemies as you can before you head to the big enemy. Eliminating all of them is relatively easy and rewarding.
- Head left and grab the silver chest at the end of the hall.
- Hang a right and follow the path until you get shot at. Chase the soldiers for a fight.
- Choose the “Charge!” option and the enemies will run away. Chase after them and defeat them.
- Examine the trap door (the section of wall with the paper talismans on it) to trigger another fight.
- Go through the doorway and grab the chest.
- Continue down the path and use the chest to trigger another ambush.
- Keep going until you find a chest.
- Grab the loot and continue until you get shot at.
- Choose the “Charge!” option and the enemies will run away. Chase after them and waste them.
- Continue on through to the arena area.
- Note: You should have engaged in all of the fights, but if you didn’t, go back through and look for trap doors you didn’t open.
- Head left or right once you see the arena. Both ways have a chest, a battle and lead to the Save point.
- Tip: If you want some extra loot and combat experience, you can take one way, then the other.
- Save and prep for a big fight.
- Head into the arena.
Boss Fight: Two Ogres
- Recommended Level: 6
- Get in behind one of them (doesn’t matter which, they’re identical) and wail on him.
- Tip: Remember not to mash the attack button. Your actions go into a queue. If you continually attack, you'll keep attacking when you want to do something else.
- Dodge their attacks when you can and heal after their big attack (the one with the red text; you’ll know it when it hits you.)
- Block if you have to. Dodging works better, but if you can't get out of the way in time, a little damage is better than a lot.
- They like to pound the ground and do horizontal swipes with their axes. Dodge the ground pound and block the horizontal stroke.
- Keep pounding on one until it dies, then go after the next with the same tactics.
- Watch the cutscene.
Wutai: Woods
- Watch the cutscene and take down the new guys. They go down easy enough.
- Save as soon as you can.
- Move forward and select that you’re ready.
Boss Fight: Ifrit
- Recommended Level: 6
- Run up to him, hit him three times, then block.
- Hit him wherever you can. He moves quickly and turns to face you, so getting behind him is hard (if not impossible.)
- Keep hitting him when he looks like he's wounded. He isn't really, he's just trying to trick you into backing off.
- Block when you see him start throwing fireballs at you. They're tough to dodge, so just block them.
- Use Potions when you need to but save your MP for Cure and Blizzard.
- Use Cure after he hits you with Hellfire. It HURTS.
- Use Blizzard on him if you’re at range and avoiding his melee. He is weak against Ice.
- Tip: Do not cast Fire on him. This will heal him.
- Tip: Try again if you have to. Dying on this fight is a very real possibility, so don’t feel down if he kills you.
- Watch the cutscene with Sephiroth when it’s over.
Chapter 3: Back at Shinra
- Watch the cutscene.
- Check your mail.
- Save.
- Tip: While you’re here, you can take on a mission if you like. There is an easy mission in Wutai that takes next to no time and only involves 2 fights. Completing it opens up several more missions, most of which are quite difficult.
- Talk to Tseng when you’re ready to leave.
Banola Village
- Watch the cutscene with Tseng.
- Kill the Genesis copies. They go down easy enough, but they do cast Ice, so try and dodge it if you can.
- Follow the path up.
- Save when you can.
- Watch the cutscene and get ready for a fight.
- Fight the spider bot. Get behind him for maximum effect. Block when he does his red attacks and dodge when he tries to slice you with the pincers.
- Watch the cutscene when the spider bot is toast.
- Move past Tseng into the next area.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Grab the chest to your left, then move to the right past Tseng.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Save.
- Enter the building on your left.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Look around, then leave when you’re ready.
- Kill the Genesis copies.
- Move past the broken fence and grab the chest to the right.
- Read your mail and continue up the hill.
- Talk to Tseng and watch the cutscene.
Banola Village: Inside the Factory
- Kill the Genesis copies.
- Head down the stairs.
- Kill the Genesis copies then start in on the robot. Nothing fancy, just hammer at it until it drops.
- Save and watch the cutscene.
- Head over to Tseng and through the door.
- Head back to the stairwell.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Grab the chest and continue along the side of the house.
Missile Attack Minigame
- Wait until the missiles get within striking distance of your sword, then take a shot at them with the circle button.
- Don’t worry if you don’t get them all. The minigame ends when ten missiles come at you.
- Head straight up and into the house.
- Watch the cutscene and get ready for another boss.
Boss Fight: Bahamut
- Recommended Level: 8
- Run up and attack him head-on. You can't get behind him, so don't bother trying.
- Get used to chasing him. He likes to dash and fly all over the area, and you have to chase him if you want to hit him.
- Block or dodge when he raises his hand. This is a two-hit attack that really hurts if you don't block.
- Hit him with spells when he flies out of reach. Fire or Ice works fine. You will probably have enough time for two or three spells before he flies back.
- Block when his lightning bolt charges up and flies. You'll see a casting bar before it does, so start blocking when it gets about 3/4 full.
- Heal up after he hits you with his red attack. This also has a cinematic, so you'll know when it's coming.
- Keep at him. This fight can take a little while since you have to hit him in small doses, but hang in there.
- Watch the cutscene.
Chapter Four: Back at Shinra
- Watch the cutscene.
- Read your mail.
- Head over to the elevators.
- Read your mail again.
- Take the elevator to Lazard’s office.
- Watch the cutscene and admire your new threads.
- Equip some new Materia (you’ll get 2 new slots.)
- Go to the Briefing Room.
- Read your mail.
- Talk to the scientist.
- Read your mail again.
- Head back to Lazard’s room.
- Watch the cutscene and get ready for a fight.
Genesis Clone Attack
- Save, then go through the door.
- Get into the elevator, then select the lower dialog option when it jams.
- Get out of the elevator at the bottom, then help the Shinra guards.
- Take out the Genesis copies first, then start in on the robots.
- Watch the cutscene.
Loveless
- Follow Cissnei into Loveless.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Fight the Genesis copy with the shotgun.
- Dodge when he rushes at you. He's fast, so it'll take good timing, but if you can dodge this attack, you will save a lot of health.
- Block when he starts shooting with a pair of guns. This burst attack can chip away at you quickly, so keep blocking until he puts one away.
- Hit him in the back. He will leave it open from time to time, so take advantage of it when he does.
- Heal up if you need. Once you get his moves down, the fight will go easier.
- Block as many of Genesis’ attacks as you can and watch out for his charging attack.
- Pound him as quick as you can, then block.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Save.
Mini Boss: The Imp
- Hit him as quick as you can and dodge as many of his attacks as you can.
- Hit the Imp with anything you can: spells, back attacks, etc. He doesn't have much HP but he can dish out a ton of damage quickly. Taking him down in as little time as possible is essential.
- Watch his shadow when he flies up, then dodge when he comes down. This jumping attack hits like a ton of bricks and can kill you if you're not prepared.
- Watch the cutscene.
Mako Reactor
- Follow the catwalk to the left, then the right.
- Look for a wheel. Turn it to lower the ladder.
- Save.
- Head down to Sephiroth.
- Go down and press the switch, then head back up and save.
- Check your mail.
- Turn the next wheel to lower another ladder.
- Take the ladder.
- Head all the way down and hit the switch.
- Grab the loot and return to Sephiroth.
Laboratory
- Look around, then talk to Sephiroth.
- Read all four of the panels and enjoy the scenes.
- Save.
- Talk to Sephiroth again and watch the cutscene.
- Chase Dr. Hollander. You’ll have to fight along the way, but keep on him.
- Save at the end.
Boss Fight: Robot Trio
- Recommended Level: 11
- Pick a robot and attack it until it drops. Pick another, attack it until it drops, then eliminate the third one.
- Get behind the robots for maximum damage.
- Focus on getting one down at a time. AoE materia are helpful, but don't rely on them too heavily. Hitting all three in the back is next to impossible.
- Watch the cutscene.
Chapter Five: Church
- Grab the chest, then save.
- Talk to Aeris.
- Read your mail, then follow Aeris.
- Take out the bad guys.

- Head to the right to get to the next area.
- Return to the Town Square through the gate.
- Return to the blocked area line and select the top option to cross it.
- Save and get ready for a string of fights.
- Fight the Genesis copies.
- Fight the robots.
- Fight more Genesis copies.
- Fight the Genesis copy with the staff. This guy is a bit tougher than his predecessors.
- Tip: Watch for him to raise his hands, then dodge. Get behind him and attack his back. He should go down easy enough.
- Watch the cutscene.
Shinra Building with Sephiroth and Angeal
- Save.
- Go straight and into the next area.
- Loot the lab, then go through the gates to the elevator.
- Talk to the scientist in the next room.
- Save.
- Talk to the scientist again and select the upper option.
- Watch the cutscene and get ready for a fight.
Boss Fight: Gold Bahamut
- Recommended Level: 14
- Run up to him and slash. He turns, so don’t bother trying to get behind him. However, he does not move this time, so there's no need to chase him.
- Tip: When you see him raise his hands, block and hold it until he’s finished hitting you. You’ll get knocked back, so run back and keep wailing on him. There should be three hits in this attack, so wait until all three land.
- Dodge his wing attacks. These will shoot out large shards, which will rain down on you. Run to a corner of the area when you see them shoot, then dodge your way back to Bahamut.
- Heal up when you need to. Most of his attacks are slow and leave time for healing.
- Block when you see him launch a pair of projectiles at you. They hurt, but not badly if you block.
- Block as many of his attacks as you can and keep the pressure on until he drops.

- Check your mail.
- Watch the cutscene.
Mt. Nibel
- Save.
- Head up the path.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Continue along the path and through to the next area.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Head down and save.
- Head into the facility and select the top option.
Old Factory
- Go inside.
- Take a right, then continue along the outside.
- Head down the stairwell.
- Hide from the guards if you want, or fight them.
- Grab the loot and continue.
- Take a right once you get inside.
- Buy Remedies. LOTS of Remedies.
- Save.
- Tip: Consider doing some missions if you haven’t already. A boss fight is imminent and a few more levels can’t hurt.
- Take the elevator.
- Watch the cutscene and get ready for a big, difficult fight.
Boss Fight: Genesis
- Recommended Level: 15
- Block his sword attacks. They hit like a truck, so heal up afterwards. They also have a huge range, which makes dodging difficult or impossible.
- Hit him in the back if you can, but don't fret if you can't. He moves very quickly and turns to face you, so you won't get much chance to hit him in the back. Better to just hit him head on.
- Block his energy projectile attacks. If you don't, these can kill you in one shot.
- Be on your guard as he gets low on health. He will start to heal himself and hit harder, so be ready to use more Remedies.
- Try and outlast him. The DMW reel will be a great asset here, but it needs time to work. Don't worry too much about hitting him, just try and stay alive long enough for the DMW Reel to bring out some big guns.
- Use Remedies if you need to. He hits you with an array of status ailments, so if you have a bunch of Remedies, use them. If you run low, wait until he hits you with Curse before you use them. (Curse stops the DMW reel from running, so make sure you get rid of it quickly.)
- If you don't have a lot of remedies, save them until he is low on health. If you bought a bunch, then feel free to cure your Curse whenever he slaps it on you.
- Hit him two or three times, then block.
- Tip: Do not spam attacks or you will be defeated.
- Keep whittling him down until he drops.
- Pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
- Watch the cutscene.
Aftermath
- Go through the tunnel.
- Save.
- Head into the village.
- Check your mail.
- Loot the chest ahead of you.
- Head down the hill to your right and loot another chest.
- Check your mail.

- Grab the one on the right first.
- Go back, past the steps and into the hallway. Look for a sign that reads “Modeo Public Bath”.
- Fight a gryphon.
- Fight an Angeal copy.
- Head upstairs.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Go through the door.
- Go downstairs and take a right for the next stairs.
- Go up and look for a hole in the wall.
- Go through the hole.
- Save.
- Head up the pipes, across the catwalk and into the next fight.
Boss Fight: Angeal
- Recommended Level: 16
- Keep moving, stay as far away as you can for as long as you can and be conservative with your attacks.
- Dodge his spear and dart attacks. These can take big chunks out of your HP, so keep moving and stay away from them.
- Get behind him if you can. His attacks will be easier to dodge this way, plus it will let you get some critical hits in.
- Watch for a casting bar. If you see one, start blocking. This isn't a red attack, but it hurts almost as much.
- Stay as close to full health as you can. His red attack hits really hard so heal IMMEDIATELY afterwards.
- Watch the cutscenes.
Chapter Seven: On the Beach
- Kill the Genesis copies and watch the cutscene. Yes, you have an umbrella and no armor, but you’ll be fine. You’re THAT good.
Junon
- Win the fights, then head down the street.
- Grab the chests.
- Head into the building on the right, at the end.
- Kill the Genesis copy. His attacks are slow, so get behind him and trash him.
- Continue down the street.
- Check your mail.
- Fight a couple battles.
- Save when you see the Save Point.
- Hit the panel on your left.
- Fight another battle.
- Hit the switch again, then chase after Hollander.
- Fight the tank.
- Tip: Kill the satellites it summons, then start in on the tank’s rear. Dodge its main gun and bring it down.
- Continue on.
- Save.
- Check your mail and save again.
- Leave by hitting the switch to your right.
- Chase Dr. Hollander again and kill his buddies.
- Save, then move on.
Boss Fight: Security Robot
- Recommended Level: 21
- Get behind it and stay there.
- Dodge the energy attacks (the big yellow ball he conjures.) It takes a few moments to charge, so when you see it, get back and start dodging.
- Block when you see it raise it's machine gun. This hits pretty hard and repeatedly, so block if you can.
- Stay away from the laser. At some points, he will stop and try to scan you. If he gets a lock on, big pain is coming. If you get behind him, he won't find you and will leave himself open to attack for several seconds.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Save.
- Follow the marks on the map toward Cloud and Tifa.
- Follow them to the next area.
- Tip: Run ahead of Cloud and Tifa and run in circles until you get a random battle. When you’re done, they will have caught up.
- Go straight ahead to the giant house.
- Save.
- Head left and into the next area.
- Watch the cutscene.

- Head outside.

- Talk to Aeris.
- Walk straight ahead and leave the area.
- Check your mail.
- Head into the house.
Nibelheim: House
- Look for the locked safe in the northwest corner.
- Look around near the safe for a list. This tells you what you need to look for. Each level has at least one room with a locked door where you must look through the keyhole and count certain objects.
- Go to the top floor and find the room with the books. Count the books that are not on the shelf.
- Look for another room on the top floor with cans and apples. Count both and add them together.
- Go to the bottom floor and look for a room with pumpkins hovering in the air. Count the pumpkins.
- Look for another room on the bottom floor with chairs. Count them.

- Take the ladder down.
- Loot the rooms on the sides for treasure.
- Tip: Ignore the coffins unless you want to fight.
- Head down the hall and enter the library.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Talk to Sephiroth.
- Leave the house.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Move to the house once the fire starts.
- Watch the movie.
- Check the hapless soldier, then try to leave. It will stop you, but try again and you’ll leave.
Nibelheim Reactor
- Head up the path.
- Check your mail.
- Save. This is really important.
- Tip: Stock up on items now. You will probably need them.
- Head up into the reactor.
- Examine Tifa.
- Watch the cutscenes and get ready for a fight.
Boss: Sephiroth, Phase 1
- Recommended Level: 24
- Keep him at a distance. You have a lot of room to move around, so use it.
- He will teleport a lot, so you'll have to chase him if you want to keep hitting him.
- Meet him head-on. He turns to face you, so don't waste time trying to get behind him.
- Keep as close to full health as you can. He may hit moderately hard in the beginning, but he will hit a lot harder soon enough.
- Run away when you need to heal. You'll need to after his red attack.
- Attack him two or three times, then back off.
- Dodge his attacks.
- Tip: Keep an eye on your health because he will do an attack that reduces you to 1 HP. When he does this, get away very quickly and heal.
- Ignore the crystals he summons and just wail on him. You can attack these if you want, but their effect is negligible. Use an AoE materia attack if you want to take them down.
Boss: Sephiroth, Phase 2
- Recommended Level: 24
- Hit him as hard as you can. His moves are the same as in Phase 1, so you know what to expect.
- Tip: Use only your highest damage attacks and burn him down as fast as you can. You must kill him before he pushes you off the ledge or you’re done for.
- Run away if you need to heal, then get back in the fight quickly. Every second counts.
- Note: You will not have as much room to run around here, so be careful.
- Enjoy the cutscenes.
Chapter Ten: In a Haze

- Note: The soldiers are easy but the catch is that they try to carry Cloud away. Always kill the soldier closest to Cloud. Don’t let them take him away.
- Watch the cutscene once the soldiers are defeated.
- Leave the room and head to the staircase.
- Keep going down the hallway (not down the stairs.)
- Look for a door on the left.
- Go inside and grab the loot from the dresser.
- Check your mail.
- Head back to Cloud.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Fight the soldiers. No catch this time, just trash them.
- Check your mail.
- Head for the exit.
- Check your mail again and continue towards the exit.
- Follow the path towards Midgar. Clear the way for Cloud.
Sniper Minigame
- Along the road, you will find sniper rifles. Use them to clear the road and take out the robots.
- Tip: Aim for the head or the feet. Avoid the shield.
Road to Midgar
- Keep shooting and moving until you hit the Save Point.
- Save.
- Head towards the ocean.
- Watch the cutscenes and prep for a fight.
Boss Fight: Genesis Horror
- Recommended Level: 27
- Stay close and pound on him.
- Tip: Dodge all melee slash attacks by diving toward him rather than away. This will cause most of his attacks to miss and keep you in melee range.
- Watch out for his fireball. It hits for a few hundred damage, but like his slashing attacks, can easily be dodged by dodging toward him.
- Heal after his red attack. It hurts, but not as much as you might think.
- Watch the cutscene.
Homecoming
- Head straight up the hill.
- Check your mail.
- Continue into the next area.
- Loot the chest.
- Save.
- Keep going down the path.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Go straight and up the hill.
- Loot the chest.
- Cross the waterfall.
- Follow the trail down and get ready for a fight.
- Take down the Genesis copies.
- Watch the cutscene.
- Head all the way back down.
- Save.
- Tip: Buy Remedies now if you don’t have a bunch sitting around. You’ll need them.
- Continue until you get to Cloud and get ready for a fight.
Boss Fight: Hollander
- Recommended Level: 27
- Hit him in the back as much as you can. He moves around a lot, so if he gives you a chance to hit him in the back, take it.
- Kill any maggots he summons. These will spell trouble for you if they stay alive too long.
- Dodge his swinging attack. It's easy to sidestep.
- Stay at high health and try to dodge his breath attack. It causes Poison, Curse and Silence, so use a Remedy on it as soon as you can if he hits you with it.
- Dodge his swinging attacks and take out his grubs as quickly as possible.
- Heal immediately after his red attack or you will be in trouble quickly.
- Stop hitting him when he throws a potion on the ground. This will make him invincible for a little while, so use this time to heal up and dodge his attacks. The invincibility buff is visible, so start attacking again when it drops.
- Pour it on when he starts healing himself. He does this when he gets low on health and he heals for a while, so take it out of him as quickly as possible.
- Stay alive and whittle him down as best you can.
- Watch the cutscene.
Chapter Eleven: Banola Village
- Head down the path and into the next area.
- Walk up to the pit and select the top option.
The Lifestream Cave
- Follow the scream.
- Head down the path and grab the first orb on the right. This is the first of seven you’ll need to collect.
- Note: None of the orbs are in the prison section, so don’t bother looking for them there.
- Head back and around the lake, then up the ramp. There is a chest at the top. Grab it.
- Go back down, head left and look for a nook in the rock. Go through it and grab the chest.
- Head up the ramp on the left, hang a right at the top and go left through the first crack into a room filled with water.
- Grab the orb on the right.
- Grab the orb on the left, between the two pillars.
- Grab the orb near the Save Point.
- Save.
- Exit the room.
- Hang a left and follow the path to a chest. Loot the chest.
- Take a right and go through the opening.
- Head down to the Save Point.
- Stock up on items now. It will be one of your last chances.
- Save.
- Head to the altar and examine it.
Mini Boss: Genesis Horror
- Kill the monster. The fight is structured exactly like the other Genesis Horror, just tougher. Stay on your guard and bring him down.
The Final Fights
- Save and restock items if you need.
- Equip an Area of Effect (AoE) Materia if you haven’t already done so. You’ll need it.
- Note: This is your last chance to restock and save. Take it.
- Save.
- Walk through the door and get ready for a fight.
- Tip: Make sure you set aside a good deal of time for the last part. It will take a while.
Boss Fight: Genesis Phase 1
- Recommended Level: 30
- Attack Genesis when he stabs his sword into the ground. This is where the AoE attack comes in handy. He will spawn minions when he does this and the AoE attack will allow you to hit both him and the minions.
- Destroy the minions before you attack Genesis if you do not have an AoE attack.
- Block spells to minimize damage.
- Tip: Be patient. This is a very long fight, and while it is not that difficult, it is time-consuming.
- Be sparing with your items. This is a long fight and will stretch you and your supplies thin. Use items only when you need them.
- Keep wearing him down until he drops.
- Watch the cutscene.
Boss Fight: Genesis Phase 2
- Recommended Level: 30
- Dodge his attacks. The fight is similar to when you fought him earlier, except now his attacks do not cause Curse.
- Continue cleaning off his status ailments. He will hit them with regular frequency, so be ready with the Remedies.
- Get behind him and wail on him. He turns slowly, so you shouldn't have much trouble staying on his rear arc.
- Keep dodging and hitting him in the back until he drops.
- Pat yourself on the back, you just finished Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core!
- Enjoy the ending!
Game Plus
- Wait through the credits for a chance to save your game. This will create a new save file, which you can use at the start of your next game.
- Note: You will keep your level, items, Materia, money and play time. Everything else will be reset.
Secrets and Unlockables
Optional Missions
- There are around 300 optional Missions, which Zack can pursue at any time after Chapter 2. They can be accessed via the Save Points, and are all completely optional. You will gain the benefit of new items, Materia, Shops and XP if you do them, so pursuing at least a few missions is advisable.
- Note that you do not suffer any penalties for dying on a Mission. You wake up back at the Save Point with full HP and MP. There is no cost inherent in retrying Missions, so if you don’t pass, just keep trying until you do.
- Make sure to look everywhere when on-mission. Lots of loot is hidden by camera angles.
- Each Mission has a difficulty rating. In general, Missions which are rated “Easy” to “Hard” are passable at your level. A Rating greater than Hard means that you should probably do some level grinding before you try it unless you like a tough challenge. As you level up, you will notice the difficulty level on Missions gradually decreases.
- Some Missions are unlocked by progressing in the main story, but the majority of Missions are unlocked by doing the preceding Mission. For instance, Mission 1-1-2 is unlocked by progressing to Chapter 10 while Missions 1-2-2 through 1-2-6 are unlocked by completing Mission 1-2-1.
Genji Armor
- There are several pieces of Genji armor which, if you are familiar with any previous Final Fantasy game, are the ultimate armor pieces. Each one bestows tremendous abilities on Zack, and you’ll want to have all of them before you attempt to take on the hardest boss in the game, Minerva.
- To obtain the Genji Armor, you will need to complete the DMW gallery (find every DMW picture) and rack up 100% for each picture. The DMW menu will tell you what percent your characters are at. When they’ve all reached 100%, you will be awarded the Genji Armor.
- To obtain the Genji Shield, find the Magic Pot in Mission 7-6-6 and hit it with the attacks it specifies. You’ll need to do this once to get the Magic Pot DMW, then come back again to get the Genji Shield.
- To obtain the Genji Glove, complete Mission 9-6-4. You will need to clear a lot of other Missions to get here, and you will need to fight the Malboro Great, who is a tough customer, but not overly difficult if you can survive the Missions you need to complete to get to him.
- To obtain the Genji Helm, you simply need to buy it at Net Shop Shade. The Net Shop Shade item is found in a treasure chest in Mission 9-5-4.
Optional Boss: Minerva
- Minerva is located in mission 9-6-6.
- Make no mistake: Minerva is, without doubt, the hardest boss in the game. Like Nemesis in Final Fantasy X, Minerva is optional and many times more powerful than the “final” boss.
- In order to have a hope of defeating Minerva, you need: all the Genji armor pieces, a high level Curaga Materia, 67,000+ HP, the Costly Punch Materia, a Steal/Mug Materia, a Master SP Materia, 160+ Luck.
- Before you go to Minerva, make sure you have: saved, saved up A LOT of SP (10 million +), purchased as many Elixirs and Phoenix Downs as you can, put Reraise on yourself, blocked off a good chunk of time.
- Put Reraise on yourself whenever it drops. This is ESSENTIAL to surviving this fight. Minerva has several attacks that can do max damage, which will end the fight if you don’t have Reraise up. Her Judgement Arrow attack also removes your Reraise, so make sure to toss another Phoenix Down on yourself immediately after she hits you with this.
- Block when you see her start to cast Ultima. You will have seen this ability by now, so you’ll know what it looks like. If you do not Block when she lets this attack off, you will take 99,999 damage and either lose the fight or lose your Reraise.
- Steal from her quickly to obtain 99 Phoenix Downs. You should already have a bunch, but what can a bunch more hurt? Do this early in the fight to save time and trouble later.
- Keep your HP above 65,000. If you are able to manage this, you will be assured to live through her worst attacks save Ultima, which you can survive by Blocking.
- Hit her with Costly Punch. You’ll need to do this somewhere in the neighborhood of 105 times, maybe a little more or less depending on how many heals she casts. This is your main attack for the fight. Don’t bother with any other attacks. Nothing else hits as hard as this and Minerva either takes half damage from or is immune to every magical attack.
- Block her attacks. Judgement Arrow and Ultima are the two you should be most concerned about. The rest can be Blocked or Dodged for damage reductions. Dodging is difficult, so if you can’t pull it off in time, just Block.
- Keep the pressure on and keep yourself above 65,000 HP. If you can do this and you got all the items we recommended for the fight, you should be fine. The hardest parts of this fight are getting to it and preparing for it. If you can do those, you can win the fight with relative ease.
