Corina Ungureanu

Romanian gymnast Corina Ungureanu competed in international gymnastics competitions in the 1990s. Following her retirement in 1999, she has appeared nude in several DVDs and magazines, including Playboy.^{1 2}

Gymnastics Career

Ungureanu began competing with the Romanian gymnastics team in 1996. She placed first in the all-around competition at the 1996 Ecoair Cup. In 1997, Ungureanu placed second in the balance beam event and fourth in the all-around competition at the Romanian Gymnastics Nationals. That same year, she helped the Romanian team win the International Team Gymnastics Championships as well as the World Gymnastics Championships.³ Ungureanu also competed with the Romanian team at the world championships in 1999, where they earned a first place finish again.⁴

Modeling Career

In December of 1999, Ungureanu appeared nude in the Romanian version of Playboy.² Ungureanu later, in 2002, was filmed performing gymnastics routines in the nude for a DVD with fellow Romanian gymnasts Lavinia Milosovici and Claudia Presecan.¹ In 2003, Ungureanu, Milosovici and Presecan made news again after appearing in a magazine posing in g-string underwear.⁵ The public displays of nudity brought much criticism, including the consideration of a ban from competition by the Japan Junior Gymnastic Club Federation. Former gymnast Nadia Comaneci knocked Ungureanu, commenting that "it damages the image of Romanian gymnastics."²
