Guide Note:

The consumer confidence index (CCI) is a measure of consumer optimism in the economy at large. The figure is based on collective saving and spending habits of individuals. The official index is maintained by the Conference Board, a non-profit research organization led by business executives. The consumer confidence index has traditionally anticipated business and economic trends several months before other common indicators. In March, 2008, consumer confidence reached a 5-year low, which was interpreted by many economists an indicator to an inevitable onset of economic recession.
