Congress Targets Yahoo!
Guide Note:Congress Targets Yahoo!: The House Foreign Affairs Committee is investigating charges that Yahoo! knowingly provided private information to Chinese officials, which lead to the prosecution of Chinese democracy advocate Shi Tao. In 2006 Yahoo! told congress that it did not know the nature of the Chinese governments investigation of Shi Tao, when it released his IP address, and e-mail contents. Congress has sense determined that those statements were false, and that Yahoo! knew more about the investigation than they had claimed. Shi Tao is now serving a 10-year prison sentence.
