Colorado Wildfires

Guide Note:
On April 15, 2008, wildfires in Colorado caused the evacuation of the towns of Ordway and Carbondale, and a voluntary evacuation of Fort Carson.
Ordway Wildfire:
The wildfire in Ordway is blamed for at least two deaths and covers an estimated 3,500 acres. Ordway is located about 46 miles east of Pueblo, and all residents within a five-mile radius were forced to evacuate. A possible cause of the Ordway wildfire is the accidental spread of a controlled fire.
Carbondale Wildfire:
The Carbondale wildfire covers a 300-acre area and is threatening homes and a private school. Everyone within a three-mile radius of the fire was notified using the Reverse 911 call system and forced to evacuate. The cause of this fire is unknown as of April 16, and no injuries have been reported in connection with it.
Fort Carson Wildfire:
The wildfire in Fort Carson covers about 1,000 acres and has prompted a voluntary evacuation. A pilot was killed when his crop-duster crashed. Wet weather beginning on March 16 is expected to help control this fire.
