The cherry is a small fruit with a stony seed at the center of succulent flesh. There are many species of cherry, some which are eaten plain, others which are pickled and turned into garnish, like maraschino cherries, some end up canned, and some are dried. Cherries range in color from yellow to dark purple, almost black, though "cherry red" is the color most associated with the fruit.

Cherries contain antioxidants, which help to eliminate damage-causing free radicals. Much like pomegranates, cherries are now being touted as a health food, and their juice has become more available than it once was.
