Guide Note:A series of underwater earthquakes has occurred off the coast of central Oregon. Scientists aren't sure why these earthquakes are occurring, because they normally occur right before a volcanic eruption. However, there are no volcanoes around this area. During the second week of April, there were over 600 earthquakes, some with a magnitude of over 5.0. Some of the earthquakes were also within minutes of each other. Scientists do not think this type of activity will continue and expect it to stop in the next week or so.
