Tuberculosis

• It is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The disease mostly affects the lungs, but can also affect the central nervous system. Although incidence of the disease has decreased overtime, it still remains one of the most common causes of death from an infectious disease worldwide.

World Tuberculosis Day

• March 24th is the annual celebration of Dr. Robert Koch's discovery of the cause of tuberculosis, the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
