Cat Power Lincoln Ad
In a commercial for the 2009 Lincoln MKS, singer-songwriter Cat Power sings a cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity."1
Produced by the Berlin Cameron agency, the 30-second commercial, titled "Lift Off," depicts a driver starting the MKS with the push of a button. The car revs up while the GPS system turns on. The car then drives straight into the distance, and the tagline appears on-screen: "Boot Up. Lift Off."1
Power sings the verse, "Ground control to Major Tom / Commencing countdown, engines on / Check ignition and may God's love be with you." As the car takes off, the music gets louder while Power sings "This is ground control to Major Tom / You've really made the grade."1
A full version of the song has not been released. Power has released two albums of covers in 2000 and 2008, titled The Covers Record and Jukebox respectively.2 In 2006, she covered a Cat Powers song, "How Can I Tell You," for a diamonds commercial.3
