Relinquishing Power to Brother Raul
Because of his declining health, Fidel Castro transferred his duties to brother Raul Castro on July 31, 2006.
Fidel Castro officially resigned his position as president of Cuba on February 19, 2008; Raul Castro was chosen by Cuba's National Assembly five days later.
