Calculus

Guide Note

Calculus is the field of math pertaining to derivatives, limits, definite and indefinite integrals and power series.

Fast Facts

  1. Calculus dates back to 1800 BC
  2. The two basic areas of calculus are differential and integral calculus
  3. Primary development credited to Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz

Glossary

  1. Limit: Describes the behavior of a function's output as the input nears a given input
  2. derivative: Is a measures the rate of change of a function at a given input
  3. Integral: The opposite of a derivative, the result is a function that is capable of measuring the area located between the original function and the abscissa over a given range
  4. Power Series: An infinite series of coefficients/variable products that is raised to an incrementally increasing power
