"Tommy Want Wingy!"
It started in 1964 at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY. Frank and Teressa Bellisimo are credited with concoting the delicacy because they wanted something easy and quick to fix. So they took unused wings from chickens and cooked them in a deep fryer and dipped them in hot sauce. The rest is history. All over the United States, in local bars and restaurants and national restaurant chains such as Hooters, wings are among the most popular appetizers around. They usually are served by the dozen. Some places use breading to enhance the flavor and to make eating the wings less messy. Many locations serving wings will offer Bleu Cheese or other dipping sauce, and others will over varying degree of temperature of the wing. There are even some establishments that will offer 'boneless' wings. These wings will also often be part of a promotional prop for these establishments, offered at low prices or even for free during sporting events. There are even national annually held events to celebrate people's love of wings, such as the National Buffalo Wing Festival, and the Wing Bowl, held during Super Bowl week every February in Philadelphia.
