Boris Tadic is the president of Serbia and elected leader of the Serbian Democratic Party. He advocates increased ties with the Western world, including entry into the European Union and balanced diplomatic relations with the United States and the Russian Federation.

Tadic won a second term during Serbia's 2008 presidential elections. In the final round of elections, he earned 51% of the popular vote, beating contender Tomislav Nikolic's 47%. Surveys indicated that over 67% of the Serbian electorate particiapted.¹

When Kosovo declared its Kosovo Independence in 2007, Tadic stated that Serbia would never recognize Kosovo's sovereignty. He then urged the UN Security Council to reject Kosovo's declaration.²
