Boogie Down Productions

Boogie Down Productions is an East cost hip hop group formed in 1986 by rapper KRS-One and DJ Scott LaRock. LaRock was murdered in 1987, shortly after the group's debut album Criminal Minded was released. After LaRock's death DJ D-Nice was recruited into the group. With the use frank descriptions of life in the South Bronx and their fusion dancehall reggae into their spare, minimal beats set the stage for what would eventually become gangsta rap.
