The animated penguin comedy 'Surf's Up' edged out such as 'The Bee Movie' and "Beowulf" for the third spot in animation, which included the sure nominee and probable winner 'Ratatouille.'"

- "While Hollywood was struggling to wake up before sunrise, writer and illustrator Marjane Satrapi, in Paris, said she had to wait -- excited and anxious -- until almost 3 p.m. to find out if 'Persepolis' had been nominated for an Academy Award. Satripi said she never dreamed this project, based on her autobiographical novel, would be so internationally acclaimed. 'I made this movie with my best friend,' she said. 'We made a small movie in black and white without a big budget. Already, we've had so much...it's just huge. Just to be nominated makes me happy, so anything else would be a bonus.'"
