April 22, 2008: Ben Ami Kadish was arrested for allegedly spying for Israel from 1979-1985. During that time, he allegedly passed U.S. national defense information to an Israeli "government handler." He was indicted by the federal government for allegedly passing U.S. military secrets to the Israeli government and of conspiring to act as an agent for the government of Israel.

Israel claims that they have not spied on the US since 1985. As mentioned, Kadish is suspected to have disclosed US secrets between 1979-1985. On April 23, an Israeli spokesman, said: "The events go back to the early 1980s. Since 1985 there have been clear orders from prime ministers not to conduct these kind of activities."

The classified information handed over to the Israeli's includes data on nuclear weapons, a jet fighter weapons system and information on the Patriot missile system.

Kadish worked as a military engineer in New Jersey in the 1980s and had access to classified information. Investigators allege that Kadish removed classified documents and allowed an Israeli government worker to photograph them.

It is also alleged that Kadish's "handler" is the same man who "handled" convicted spy Jonathan Pollard. Pollard was convicted of being an Israeli spy and received a life sentence in 1987. Israel denied Pollard was an Israeli spy until 1998 when they awarded him Israeli citizenship.

Ynet news reported that "Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry said they had no information regarding the affair and had learned of it from media reports." Fast Facts:
