- END OF GAME
Pre-Game
- Rain outside the Superdome, but nice and comfortable inside
- ESPN College GameDay pre-game coverage
- Fowler, Corso and Herbstreit next...
- Shelley Smith with LSU coach Les Miles - he says they're prepared to play and he'll talk to kids about just letting it all hang out.
- Corso is talking about a split national championship if the game is not won convincingly
- Keys to the game: Ohio State's big line pushing at LSU's defensive line, needing to control All-American Glenn Dorsey. For LSU on Offense, it comes down utilizing their speed by spreading out the Buckeyes secondary.
- Corso talking about Dorsey, trapping should be effective against Dorsey, but he's way off base about Dorsey opting out against because of his draft status.
- Todd Blackledge worked Saturday night games on ESPN this season.
- GameDay resetting LSU's dominance in the Superdome, which is 80 miles from LSU's home campus in Baton Rouge.
- Former Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard talking about how Ohio State pumped crowd noise into their practice facility to prepare for the game. Seems like a lot of Ohio State fans are also there.
- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel knows they have to play their very best and be consistent throughout the game, not try to peak too early, in order to win. Tressel has won 30 of last 32 games, and is 8-3 against Top 10 teams.
- ESPN showing a feature about Ohio State's blowout loss last season to Florida in the BCS Title Game.
- This will be the last game for LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pellini, who took the head coaching job at Nebraska
- For weeks, the majority of focus by the national media has been regarding a "speed" advantage that LSU seems to have. Malcolm Jenkins, DB for Ohio State, called his team "slow". Analyst Todd McShay is breaking down the speed of DE Vernon Gholston. In my opinion, they really have talked this point to death.
- On Yahoo's website there is a story about the incoming BCS coordinator indicates they are considering the "plus-one" format for future use, which would allow for the bowl games to be played, and then take the top 2 teams to play in the BCS game. It has been 51 days since Ohio State last played a football game
- LSU starting QB Matt Flynn looks good in warm-up, his shoulder injury doesn't look like it'll be a factor. Still, look for a lot of QB Ryan Perrilloux to play tonight, to try and spread out the Buckeyes defense. Problem with that theory is that OSU plays Northwestern and Purdue each year; two teams that run "spread offenses".
- Here come the picks:
- Todd selects Ohio State
- Kirk picked Ohio State
- Lee breaks out the Ohio State headgear.
- Switching to FOX Sports
- New Orleans Jazz Band doing national anthem. Eddie George on the FOX pre-game set with Florida coach Urban Meyer and Jimmy Johnson.
- Game is moments away.
- Here come the Tigers!
- And here come the Buckeyes!
- FOX's Chris Meyers with Les Miles on the field: "everything is answered by the time we get to 3rd down. We'll enjoy some noise, but it's all about the 11 players inside the white lines."
- Coin flip: Tony Dorsett of Pitt will toss the coin, looks like he could still play
- LSU calls tails - it's tails - they defer to 2nd half, Ohio State will receive
