History
After the Thrashers franchise was founded in 1997, the team played their first game in 1999. The Thrashers did not see much success their first few seasons, finishing near last place in their division each year. The team was further scarred in 2003, when Dan Snyder was in a car accident while riding with teammate Dany Heatley. Heatley was badly injured, but Snyder died days after the crash.
The team rebounded in the 2006-07 season, finishing first in the southeast division. They entered the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, but were swept in the first round by the New York Rangers.
