Resignation
Card's resignation came after serving five-and-a-half years as White House Chief of Staff. President Bush claimed that the decision to resign was initiated by Card, stating that he had a desire to return to private life. Months after resigning however, card claimed that his departure from the Bush Administration came because "the president needed for me to leave, and the administration needed to have me leave."1
