The Anatolian shepherd dog is a large breed of dog from Turkey. They were originally bred as livestock guardians for the flocks of semi-nomadic shepherds. They are very loving with their family but are generally reserved around strangers.1

Health Problems
Anatolian shepherd dogs are known to suffer from hip displaysia as well as hyperthyroidism. Their immune system is naturally weak, so proper vaccinations are recommended.2
Sports or Activities
Much like when they were first bred, Anatolian shepherds are used to guard livestock. They can be kept as family pets, but do require lengthy daily exercise. Anatolian shepherds that do not get sufficient daily exercise have been known to be destructive.3
