In the 2008 turn-based strategy game Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, there are especially powerful soldier units called Commanding Officers (or COs). The COs have special abilities and can help turn the tide of a battle.¹ Additionally, there are eight unlockable COs that can be obtained by beating certain missions.

In Advance Wars: Days of Ruin there are eight unlockable COs. Each CO is awarded after completing a specific mission. In campaign mode, you cannot choose which COs you wish to bring into battle. This is predetermined by the computer.³

1. Waylon: Beat Mission 20
   • Special Power: "Wingman" - Air units defense boost
2. Tasha: Beat Mission 12
   • Special Power: "Sonic Boom - Air units movement increased by 2
3. Penny: Beat Mission 24
   • Special Power: "Stormfront" - changes weather to random state, lasts 3 days
4. Tabitha: Beat Mission 25
   • Special Power: "Firestorm" - fire missile, 8 HP damage, 3 space radius
5. Caulder: Beat Mission 26
   • Zone Power: boosts 50% attack, 50% defense, all units
6. Forthsythe: Beat Mission 14
   • Zone Power: boosts 10% defense, 10% attack, all units
7. Gage: Beat Mission 13
   • Special Power: "Longshot" - increases range of firing units by 2
